This is it - with this you are ready to make your first leather sheath. Some of them are essentials, and some are just for convenience. In this Instructable I am using many tools. Please forgive me my language troubles, I will do my best to make this instructable as understandable as possible :). What is more I will tell you what is optional (tools, materials, steps in the Instructable if you want it simpler) and with what, and how you can replace it. I will call difficulty level of this Instructable as Intermediate but it can also be very usefull for beginners, because I am explaining almost every thing what I am doing, and I am describing all tools I am using. But generel concept is always the same and I will present it for you. You can do many things differently, in another order and with different tools. I would like to point out that I am a craftsman with my own ways of doing many things, that works for me, but it is not one official way to do it. I will guide you through my process of sheathmaking with all the details. This is why one day I thought, that it would be a good idea to make a step by step story of making my sheaths. I tried it with dozens of knives - from budget swedish work-horses scandi knives with plastic handle, to art knives with amazing stabilized woods on the handles. I called it "universal" because it is designed to carry almost every kind of medium size, fixed blade, knife. The Japeto Hori Hori trowel knife comes complete with holster/blade protector, and a good quality Japeto canvas garden bag meaning you can preserve your garden tool and extend its life.I would like to introduce you to my concept of universal leather knife sheath. Many people who use Hori Hori knives have found that their more conventional garden tool cousins, such as the garden trowel and garden fork, become redundant as the Hori Hori garden trowel knife is so multi-functional. And on top of all that, unlike similar Japanese garden tools the Japeto Hori Hori Trowel knife also has a measuring device on the blade allowing for accurate depth planting! Another function of the concave shape allows seeds to be carried and carefully dispensed when seeding. ![]() The blade is also slightly curved which aids with digging and planting bulbs. The carbon steel blade is very sharp on one side and serrated on the other making it the perfect garden hand tool for weeding, cutting roots, cutting twine, sod cutting and deadheading plants. So, in essence, this is a garden knife that digs, but what makes it so versatile a garden tool is it has many more functions than just that! According to many sources, the Hori Hori knife was first introduced and used to carefully excavate plants such as Sansai in the Japanese mountains. Used in Japanese gardens throughout history, this traditional Japanese garden tool was named ‘Hori’ after its Japanese meaning ‘to dig’. Known also as a 'Hori-Hori knife' or 'Japanese soil knife', the Japeto Hori Hori Trowel knife is an essential and highly versatile garden tool. These items must be used responsibly and appropriately*** By placing an order for one of these items you are declaring that you are 18 years of age or over. Japeto is not permitted to sell a knife or blade to any person under the age of 18. However some garden products including the Hori Hori Knife and Grafting knife could be classified as knives due to the fact they possess a blade. ***Important: All products sold by Japeto are for use as garden tools or for use in the garden. If you would like a Hori Hori knife with a durable leather sheath that can be attached to any belt and used daily Japeto recommends the Hori Hori Deluxe Japeto does not recommend that this sheath be used for anything other than packaging. Sheath : The sheath included with this hori hori knife functions as protective packaging of the blade only. If this is an essential reason for purchasing the product we would advise purchasing the more superior model. ![]() Please note that the holster supplied with this product is not as robust as that of the Hori Hori Deluxe. Inch markings on blade assist accurate depth planting. Handle: ergonomically crafted handle in wood, 170mm.īlade: sharp/serrated carbon steel blade 155mm x 40mm. With a lot of use, the black paint may wear away over time meaning that the inscription may become less legible with use. However the inscription is on top of a black paint finish. Please note that on this product personalisation is available on the blade. *If you would like a personalised wooden gift tag this will come with string and be attached to the handle of the product within the canvas bag ready for gifting ![]() Personalisation service now available - get your name or initials on the handle or blade. A classic Japanese garden product which provides an essential, multi-purpose, tool for working all round the garden, including weeding, cutting, planting and sawing (i.e.
